Richmond Aug 20 1835 My Dear Martha I have this moment arrived here + hasten to inform you that I landed in safety accompanied by my friend F Johnston. Mr White of Salem + others who joined on the way. the heat + dust made the trip a little unpleasant but otherwise it was quite agreeable. I shall remain here tomorrow + leave next day from Philada [Philadelphia?] from which [?] you may expect to hear from me again. I hope you + my dear little Ann are well – do kiss the little crea ture again + again for me the farther the old stage carries me from you the worse I want to see you I shall lose no time in doing my business + returning to the fond embrace of my dear Ma I write in great haste you will therefore excuse the brevity of this my first [?] farewell + believe me to be affectionately Your Tom
