Description

Brittany Wade was born in Willis, Virginia and grew up accompanying her mother to work at Virginia Tech, eventually working as an IT Systems Administrator for Tech. Brittany currently works for RackSpace in Austin, Texas as a Windows Systems Administrator. In her oral history she explains growing up as a lesbian in Southwest Virginia, her relationships with coworkers in the LGBTQ+ community, as well as her current involvement in the LGBTQ+ community of Austin, Texas.

This oral history was conducted in the summer of 2015 as part of an oral history project titled: “Bridging the gap between LGBTQ alumni and current students,” by Megan Lee Myklegard, winner of the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Creativity and Innovation grant for undergraduate research and creative scholarship.
