April Cheek-Messier arrived at Virginia Tech for her master's degree in history in 1996. Prior to coming to Blacksburg, she attended undergraduate school at Hollins, and got a master's degree in both history and English. In the master's program at Virginia Tech, she found comradery with her peers and professors who facilitated her love of history.
Coming out of college, she worked at small museums and eventually ended up at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va. Here she works to teach the history of D-Day and World War II, and how Virginia Tech is tied to it.
