Description

John Dooley was born in Summersville, West Virginia as the middle child in a coal mining family. Growing up he was very active in 4-H, which he later pursued as a career. John attended Alderson-Broaddus College (now University) and worked there for almost six years after graduating. He arrived in Blacksburg when Virginia Tech started a year-round 4-H program in 1981 . He pursued a master's and Ph.D at Virginia Tech in High Education Administration and continued working at the university in 4-H. Upon retiring, he became the CEO of the Foundation and remains active in university affairs.

In this interview, John talks about his childhood in West Virginia, arriving at Virginia Tech, and time spent serving the university.
