<p><span font-size="medium">Beaverdam Sept 9th 1857 Dear Brother + Sister I embrace this opportunity to inform you we are all [?] well at this time Mother has been right poorly with the flux for several days though she is better to day able to go about I received your kind letter on the 6 [inst?] and was sorry to hear you had been sick though truly glad to hear you was well again well David me and [Lin?] went to the [apociation?] last sunday and had the pleasure of seeing J H H and M H Hardy I suppose I need not tell you how much good it did me to see him as you know he is the star to which the needle of my affections points Mrs Moore has got hom she stayed all all knight at [Andersons?] Rocks as she came in she saw Aunt Betsy she stood the journey very well and was in good</span></p>

<p><span font-size="medium">spirits when she saw her Maloys widow is married again to a rich old widower I don’t know how she managed to get time married three times I can’t get married once M Peter and Ellen Finny was married last Tues day old [brilly?] Hesters family is all sick the have the fever and the flux I don’t know what sort of a fever it is they have Mat went up to see them to day we will hear when he comes home James Maskey is dead he died last sunday saturday I want you to write to me as soon as you get my letter and give me all the news that you think will interest me it was Margaret Vines that was hear the day you left we have boiled apple butter once we intended to boil again next week if they get time to make cider I think I must have a few boys and gals the next time [?] </span></p>

<p><span font-size="medium">[old?] bet will let me when you write to me I want you to write a little longer letter than you did the last time you wrote and let me know when you and [Book?] will be up and don’t forget to let me know how [H?] is a getting our old fortune letter was ove to see us the other day as a matter of course I had my fortune told again she told me the same old tale again that I will be married before christmas [?] which I think is very doubtful she told Jane she saw something very strange in her cup she said it looked like a bunch off flowers you said Tom Johnstons wife had told some [whappers?] in Rockbridge please let me know whether she said any thing about me or any of the family I saw her and Tom last sunday they wanted to be over friendly but I don’t like to trust them Eva M [McCulloch?]</span></p>
