The photograph collection at Special Collections consists primarily of historical photographs of Virginia Tech, dating back to the 1890s. Subjects include, but are not limited to: athletics, the Corps of Cadets, campus views and buildings, events and celebrations, Agricultural Extension sites/work, and candid images of students and campus groups. A alphabetically organized photograph collection of faculty and staff from the university is maintained separately.
The collection is also home to historic images of Blacksburg, Montgomery County, the New River Valley, and Southwest Virginia in general. Subjects include, but are not limited to: historic sites and buildings, Blacksburg views and buildings, scenes from surrounding towns/cities/counties, agriculture activities, and candid images of people.

The collection includes 27 letters (some with covers and envelopes) written by Mary Sinton Leitch to J. J. Lankes between 1932 and 1950. Introduced by a mutual friend, Leitch and Lankes maintained a more than 18-year correspondence that contained conversations of personal news & friends, the Virginia literary and art scene, and their own writing and artistic efforts (including Lankes collaborations with poet Robert Frost).
The digital collection includes scans of all the correspondence, but does not include the envelopes.

<p>This collection contains digitized versions the <em>Bugle</em>, the Virginia Tech yearbook, from 1896 to 2004. Please note: The <em>Bugle </em>was not issued between 1944 and 1946. Special Collections and University Archives has most volumes after 2004 in physical format (2005-2018), but these are not available digitally.</p>
<p>The University Libraries at Virginia Tech recognizes that some issues of the <em>Bugle</em>, Virginia Tech’s yearbook, contain offensive content that does not reflect the University’s “<a href="https://www.inclusive.vt.edu/Programs/vtpoc0.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Principles of Community</a>” and its commitment to inclusion and diversity.
