This collection contains four letters from members of the Allison family (John P and James Polk), as well as a surgeon's certificate for William H Allison. The letters include news from the war front, requests for money, and information about individual family members. Letters date from 1862 to 1864, and were written in Virginia and Georgia. One of the letters and the surgeon's certificate are photocopies of original materials.
James Polk Allison enlisted with Company K, 63rd Virginia Infantry on April 1, 1862. John P Allison enlisted with Company F on May 6, 1862. In August 1864 he transferred to Company K and was promoted to 1st Corporal. From February 1865 to June 1865 he was a P.O.W. and Point Lookout, Maryland. William H Allison enlisted with Company K on April 1, 1862. He was killed in action at Chickamauga in September 1863.

<p>He was shot right a bouve the eight [eye?]</p>
<p>that was one of the hardest fights we</p>
<p>ever had the men lade thick on the</p>
<p>field the yankees more so than our</p>

<p>men kiled in our company george Collins [George Washington

This collection contains four letters from members of the Allison family (John P and James Polk), as well as a surgeon's certificate for William H Allison. The letters include news from the war front, requests for money, and information about individual family members. Letters date from 1862 to 1864, and were written in Virginia and Georgia. One of the letters and the surgeon's certificate are photocopies of original materials.
James Polk Allison enlisted with Company K, 63rd Virginia Infantry on April 1, 1862. John P Allison enlisted with Company F on May 6, 1862. In August 1864 he transferred to Company K and was promoted to 1st Corporal. From February 1865 to June 1865 he was a P.O.W. and Point Lookout, Maryland. William H Allison enlisted with Company K on April 1, 1862. He was killed in action at Chickamauga in September 1863.
