&lt;p&gt;Mrs Sherman than for you—&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;this poem. You don’t care for&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;poetry, I know, but I hope&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;she will like my little tribute to&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;our friend &amp;amp; that you will read&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;it for the sake of what I believe&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;is the truth about him.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;I had a most touching&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;letter from Alice Jaffe—a truly&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;amazing letter. I realize we&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;have merged her &amp;amp; that. She&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;is just uninhibited. I’ll show&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;you some time the note that&lt;/p&gt;</text>

&lt;p&gt;Under a pile of unanswered&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;mail has turned up a perfectly&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;charming woodcut which must&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;be yours. It is a picture of a&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;number—six to be exact—hay&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;stacks snow covered beside an&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;old farm house whose rood is also&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;blanketed in snow. There is a&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;beautiful peaceful simplicity&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;about the scene. I don’t know&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;where it came from, but if&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

&lt;p&gt;plate went astray. He has had a&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;copy struck off from the—what&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;are they called—paper plates. Of course&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;it’s not as good as the original. You&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;would say, no doubt, that it’s not&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;good at all, but a language can’t&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;tell too much difference. He has&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;turned all his gear inside out &amp;amp;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;upside down hunting for that&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;plate &amp;amp; he’s so glad to have any&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;sort of substitute.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;I had a few personal lines&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;from Mr Frost written on his&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;little Christmas poem—a rare&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;favor from him. He must have&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;decided that I’m not one to tell&lt;/p&gt;</text>
