Its really in the
middle of nowhere - about 150 miles due east of
San Diago in the desert and a very nice place -
however I imagine it will get lonesome with time
for there’s no place to go and nothing of interest
to see anywhere near - our quarters are very nice
tho and the food is far above Hueneme’s baked beans
for breakfast (the only I don’t like them). The
unit left Hueneme last Tuesday morning by train
(2 coaches, 1 baggage car, 4 Boxcars, and 20 flat cars).
I didn’t come down with them as there were some
conferences going on at Hueneme on calibrating one of
our sets for height finding and thought I should stay
</text>

                    <text>
behind to learn as much as possible about it. I left there
Wednesday night and spent the night in L.A. so I
could catch the early morning train - arrived in El Centro
about 6PM Thursday which was as far as I could go by
either train on bus - took a taxi to Haltville thinking
the driver would bring me on out of the Air station. however
he said it was a mile further than he was allowed
to go by O.P.A. so he wouldn’t go any further than
Holtville - the Air Station in Another 10 miles from town
and as Holtville is too small a town to have any taxi’s
I had to use the old thumb and last lap. The weather
here is a welcome change also - during the night and
up till about 10AM all the clothes you can pull on
are not enough but by noon its really hot and
feels wonderful - the days and nights are perfectly
clear, I havn’t seen a cloud in the sky yet - at night
there are almost as many stars as you can see at
the farm.
I finally got my other half stripe and
with it a lot more responsibility for Chismark is taking
over communications and now I have full responsibility
of all our radar gear - there was more than enough work
for the three technical officers before so I don’t know how
this will work out just hope I can do as good a job as Chismark did
Lt.
