After we left Kembridge, Scat said that he would let five dollars that you, Daddy, and his father would talk till about six or seven. Was he right? Well I certainly have gotten a lot of xmas cards. I believe every coal man in Richmond has sent a card. There are even a few that I can't place. Mrs. Jackson sent me a card and a check for two dollars and a half. I am going to write and thank her this morning. I got a card from Jimmy Smith yesterday and was certainly glad to hear from him. He may get a furlough about the first of the year and come by to see me on the way home. It would be mighty nice to see him. Seems like it has been several years since I last saw him - would like to get my furlough at the same time that he gets his. I went over to see Otey Miller Monday night and had quiet a long chat with him. We are going to Greenville tonight to a dance and will spend xmas at the Ballengers. If I cannot spend xmas at home, the Ballengers is a good second. Wish I could watch the family make egg- nog tonight. I know that you all will have a good time. The fruit cake is certainly good. Haven't started on the pecans yet but could not wait to open the gift from you and Daddy.
