The Sheet Music Collection contains various songs (lyrics and music) from about 1823 through the mid-20th century. Music in the collection is predominantly from American popular culture, but there are also some pieces from Europe, a well as theater souvenir programs and song-books.

The photograph collection at Special Collections consists primarily of historical photographs of Virginia Tech, dating back to the 1890s. Subjects include, but are not limited to: athletics, the Corps of Cadets, campus views and buildings, events and celebrations, Agricultural Extension sites/work, and candid images of students and campus groups. A alphabetically organized photograph collection of faculty and staff from the university is maintained separately.
The collection is also home to historic images of Blacksburg, Montgomery County, the New River Valley, and Southwest Virginia in general. Subjects include, but are not limited to: historic sites and buildings, Blacksburg views and buildings, scenes from surrounding towns/cities/counties, agriculture activities, and candid images of people.

A. J. Davis Family Collection (Ms2012-067)
Description
An account of the resource
The A. J. Davis Family Collection includes journals; scrapbooks; professional and biographical information; photographs, sketches, and ephemera; and a town history. The journals (1874-1927) contain memoirs, particularly of Davis' army experiences, as well as some writing exercises, poetry, stories, and religious observations. Scrapbooks compiled by A. J. Davis include newspaper clippings, personal reflections, and a stamp collection. The professional and biographical information includes service records from Davis' time in the army, genealogy information compiled by other family members, and last wills and testaments. The collection also includes a 19-page history of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, authored by Davis, as well as a draft of the Book of A. J. Davis and other manuscripts. The collection also contain pictures of Davis and family members. Various objects such as wooden writing desks and army ephemera are included.
The digital collection includes the bulk of the physical materials in digitized form (either pdf or jpg), as well some some original/born-digital items.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
This collection contains sheet music cover artwork for vocal arrangements, piano scores, opera librettos and sacred songs by Chopin, Bach, Schubert, and Haydn, and other classical composers, as well as popular songs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. <br />The University Libraries at Virginia Tech recognizes that some issues of the selections from the sheet music collections contain offensive content that does not reflect the University’s “<a href="https://www.inclusive.vt.edu/Programs/vtpoc0.html">Principles of Community</a>” and its commitment to inclusion and diversity. The University Libraries present the following content in its original and unaltered form for the purpose of research, study, and personal reading.
