Dear Virginia Tech (and all of those families that are associated with the college),
My name is Jimmy Pearson. I am a high school senior in Elyria, Ohio. On Monday I
heard about the tragic events that occurred at your college. I did not know what to say after
hearing this because I am currently the lead character in a play about school violence. I actually
play the character who has killed five of his classmates and his parents, so when I heard about this
on the news, I felt so many different things that I wasn't even sure that I wanted to do the play
any more. It gave me a new outlook on my character and honestly scared me a lot. The irony of
the whole situation was/is a little overwhelming to me. First I would just like to say that you have
my every condolence and I do hope that everything will be ok for everyone who was a victim and
for everyone else who were not direct victims but are still victims in the end of Monday's events.
It's strange because for some reason I keep feeling the need to say that I am sorry even though I
know that I never did anything and never would do anything of this nature. Maybe it's just the
character from my play talking. Maybe I feel that because I'm portraying a teen who has a lot of
problems and makes bad decisions, that I am somehow related to what happened even though I
know that I am not. I do not honestly know.
In addition to acting, I also write music. After Monday I felt that I needed to write a song
for all of you. I wrote it and recorded it in my room. The recording doesn't sound professional

Dear Virginia Tech (and all of those families that are associated with the college),</br>
</br>
My name is Jimmy Pearson. I am a high school senior in Elyria, Ohio. On Monday I</br>
heard about the tragic events that occurred at your college. I did not know what to say after</br>
hearing this because I am currently the lead character in a play about school violence. I actually</br>
play the character who has killed five of his classmates and his parents, so when I heard about this</br>
on the news, I felt so many different things that I wasn't even sure that I wanted to do the play</br>
any more. It gave me a new outlook on my character and honestly scared me a lot. The irony of</br>
the whole situation was/is a little overwhelming to me. First I would just like to say that you have</br>
my every condolence and I do hope that everything will be ok for everyone who was a victim and</br>
for everyone else who were not direct victims but are still victims in the end of Monday's events.</br>
It's strange because for some reason I keep feeling the need to say that I am sorry even though I</br>
know that I never did anything and never would do anything of this nature. Maybe it's just the</br>
character from my play talking. Maybe I feel that because I'm portraying a teen who has a lot of</br>
problems and makes bad decisions, that I am somehow related to what happened even though I</br>
know that I am not. I do not honestly know.</br>

In addition to acting, I also write music. After Monday I felt that I needed to write a song</br>
for all of you. I wrote it and recorded it in my room. The recording doesn't sound professional</br>
because I don't have good software for recording things and the mic that I use is not very good. I</br>

A. J. Davis Family Collection (Ms2012-067)
Description
An account of the resource
The A. J. Davis Family Collection includes journals; scrapbooks; professional and biographical information; photographs, sketches, and ephemera; and a town history. The journals (1874-1927) contain memoirs, particularly of Davis' army experiences, as well as some writing exercises, poetry, stories, and religious observations. Scrapbooks compiled by A. J. Davis include newspaper clippings, personal reflections, and a stamp collection. The professional and biographical information includes service records from Davis' time in the army, genealogy information compiled by other family members, and last wills and testaments. The collection also includes a 19-page history of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, authored by Davis, as well as a draft of the Book of A. J. Davis and other manuscripts. The collection also contain pictures of Davis and family members. Various objects such as wooden writing desks and army ephemera are included.
The digital collection includes the bulk of the physical materials in digitized form (either pdf or jpg), as well some some original/born-digital items.

Remembering V-Tech!</br>
From the UAB Gospel Choir</br>

When 32 students lost their lives on April 16, 2007 during a tragic shooting incident on</br>
the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg,</br>
Virginia, institutions of higher learning shared in the grief with friends, families, faculty</br>
and students. The shock and horror of this event included the University of Alabama at</br>
Birmingham (UAB) Gospel Choir, who immediately sent signed cards and condolences</br>
to Virginia Tech. It moved Kevin Turner, director of the UAB Gospel Choir, to compose</br>
and dedicate a song to everyone that was affected by this awful occurrence, as well as</br>
similar incidences that has happened on other college campuses that will be remembered</br>
for many generations to come as well.</br>
</br>
UAB Football Quarterback Sam Hunt sings lead vocal on the enclosed song entitled,</br>
"Nothing Goes Unnoticed," He agreed to sing lead vocal to demonstrate the school spirit</br>
that reaches from the campus of UAB to campus (and hearts) of Virginia Tech.</br>
</br>
More than 125 voices took to the stage to record this song, and a capacity crowd of</br>
1200+ people filled the Jemison Concert Hall at the Alys Stephens Performing Arts</br>
Center on the campus of UAB. On the evening of this recording, UAB Blazers exchanged</br>
their green and gold school colors for maroon and orange and the crowd waved maroon</br>
and orange glow sticks, while 32 candles glowed on center stage in honor of the fallen</br>
students.</br>
</br>
This composition is sent to the families of the 32 victims, to the Virginia Tech Office of</br>
Recovery and Support and to the president of the university with as much love and</br>
concern as we can include in this song and in this letter.</br>
</br>
Just as it states on the V-Tech web site, "We Remember," we also send our sincerest</br>
condolences on this one-year anniversary.</br>
</br>

Description
An account of the resource
The A. J. Davis Family Collection includes journals; scrapbooks; professional and biographical information; photographs, sketches, and ephemera; and a town history. The journals (1874-1927) contain memoirs, particularly of Davis' army experiences, as well as some writing exercises, poetry, stories, and religious observations. Scrapbooks compiled by A. J. Davis include newspaper clippings, personal reflections, and a stamp collection. The professional and biographical information includes service records from Davis' time in the army, genealogy information compiled by other family members, and last wills and testaments. The collection also includes a 19-page history of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, authored by Davis, as well as a draft of the Book of A. J. Davis and other manuscripts. The collection also contain pictures of Davis and family members. Various objects such as wooden writing desks and army ephemera are included.
The digital collection includes the bulk of the physical materials in digitized form (either pdf or jpg), as well some some original/born-digital items.

An account of the resource
The photograph collection at Special Collections consists primarily of historical photographs of Virginia Tech, dating back to the 1890s. Subjects include, but are not limited to: athletics, the Corps of Cadets, campus views and buildings, events and celebrations, Agricultural Extension sites/work, and candid images of students and campus groups. A alphabetically organized photograph collection of faculty and staff from the university is maintained separately.
The collection is also home to historic images of Blacksburg, Montgomery County, the New River Valley, and Southwest Virginia in general. Subjects include, but are not limited to: historic sites and buildings, Blacksburg views and buildings, scenes from surrounding towns/cities/counties, agriculture activities, and candid images of people.
