There&lt;br /&gt; are quiet a few 2nd Lts. on the&lt;br /&gt; order and we have no idea where&lt;br /&gt; we are going or when we will go. &lt;br /&gt; However all of us are packed up &lt;br /&gt; and waiting futher orders. I am &lt;br /&gt; not sure but I believe that I may &lt;br /&gt; be able to stop by home on my &lt;br /&gt; way to the new station. &lt;br /&gt; After this is all over you,&lt;br /&gt; Nancy, and I should make a trip&lt;br /&gt; to Florida for I am sure you &lt;br /&gt; would enjoy it. We have spent quiet&lt;br /&gt; a bit of time in Jacksonville lately&lt;br /&gt; and I don’t know when I have enjoyed&lt;br /&gt; anything more. The town is just&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                    <text>&lt;p&gt;a little smaller than Richmond&lt;br /&gt; but at first gives the impression&lt;br /&gt; of being much smaller. &lt;br /&gt; I hope the letter I wrote&lt;br /&gt; at the Mayflower Hotel made sense. &lt;br /&gt; When I was writting it the two &lt;br /&gt; fellows with me were begging me&lt;br /&gt; to hurry and bothering in general so&lt;br /&gt; after I mailed it I began to wonder &lt;br /&gt; if I got the &lt;s&gt;r&lt;/s&gt; &lt;s&gt;w&lt;/s&gt;right words in&lt;br /&gt; the right places. for the boys were&lt;br /&gt; mighty confussing. The reason for&lt;br /&gt; the rush was the dog races. We&lt;br /&gt; went two nights and they were a &lt;br /&gt; lot of fun. The old dogs run so fast&lt;br /&gt; that they look like good old fashion&lt;br /&gt; “hot dogs” with their noises and&lt;br /&gt; long skinny bodies skimming along. &lt;br /&gt; I do not know whether all &lt;br /&gt; of Florida is like this section or &lt;br /&gt; not but if it is you can bet that&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                    <text>&lt;p&gt;this state has it’s share of hogs. &lt;br /&gt; In fact I have never seen anything&lt;br /&gt; like it. The things run wild and&lt;br /&gt; believe it or not there are men who &lt;br /&gt; ride horses and round them up like&lt;br /&gt; the westerns do cattle. I do not &lt;br /&gt; know whether the term is right or&lt;br /&gt; not but we call them “pig punchers”.&lt;br /&gt; In one of your last letters you&lt;br /&gt; said something about Francis going to&lt;br /&gt; see Bob. I hope she can do it for &lt;br /&gt; I know it will mean a lot to him. &lt;br /&gt; He should be making money by the&lt;br /&gt; handfulls now ($300 a month) so he &lt;br /&gt; can easily afford it. Even if &lt;s&gt;it&lt;/s&gt; he does&lt;br /&gt; &lt;s&gt;mean&lt;/s&gt; not make as much as I believe&lt;br /&gt; he does I still think it is a good&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                    <text>&lt;p&gt;idea for these are unusal times. &lt;br /&gt; I hope you have already put&lt;br /&gt; the $100 in the bank for I have cleared&lt;br /&gt; the post here and have to buy all of &lt;br /&gt; my meals at the service club which &lt;br /&gt; means ready cash. They have not&lt;br /&gt; made up their minds yet what they &lt;br /&gt; are going to do about my pay this &lt;br /&gt; month. Of course I only draw $62. 50 &lt;br /&gt; per month but if I don’t get it untill &lt;br /&gt; I get to my next post it may put a crimp&lt;br /&gt; in my &lt;s&gt;stl&lt;/s&gt; style. &lt;br /&gt; Of course my address is the &lt;br /&gt; same and may remaind the same&lt;br /&gt; for quiet a while. I have known and &lt;br /&gt; seen people mark time for more than&lt;br /&gt; a month after recieving their warning &lt;br /&gt; orders as I have. &lt;br /&gt; Love &lt;br /&gt; Jimmie&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                  <text>Jimmie W. Monteith, Jr. (1919-1944) was a Lieutenant in the army during World War II. He served his country bravely and was killed on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion of 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Collection consists primarily of his letters home during World War II. Also includes letters of condolence sent to the family following his death, congratulatory letters for being awarded the Medal of Honor, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Collection also contains the correspondence of his brother, Robert P. Monteith, letters of sympathy following the death of his brother and his father, Jimmie Sr., as well as other letters to and from some of his family members. In addition, there are the letters and notes of John Coulter, who wrote a biography about Monteith.</text>
