                    <text>&lt;p&gt;29 June 1945 &lt;br /&gt; Friday 2300&lt;br /&gt; Dearest Mother: &lt;br /&gt; My rotation is going to work &lt;br /&gt; out just as I had thought it would &lt;br /&gt; spent most of the day yesterday at &lt;br /&gt; Radar Maintenance School checking up &lt;br /&gt; on my relief and find he will appear&lt;br /&gt; on the scene around August 1st - with &lt;br /&gt; approximately a 2 week break in period &lt;br /&gt; before I’m detached and about 2 weeks &lt;br /&gt; awaiting transportation it should be around &lt;br /&gt; Sept 1st when I leave here which &lt;br /&gt; should put me home around Sept 15th. &lt;br /&gt; Frankly I’m not disapointed for I would &lt;br /&gt; like to have a little mild weather &lt;br /&gt; for my first time home in three years. &lt;br /&gt; Bob Omohundro spent last&lt;br /&gt; Saturday and Sunday with me - they &lt;br /&gt; are at Schofield now waiting to go in &lt;br /&gt; as garrison troops on the current island &lt;br /&gt; with prospects of being there for the next&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                    <text>&lt;p&gt;2 years - not a very nice outlook is &lt;br /&gt; it - they will really be able to save&lt;br /&gt; money tho for the maximum they can &lt;br /&gt; draw will be $25 per month in order &lt;br /&gt; to cut down inflation. Bob seemed to &lt;br /&gt; enjoy his stay out here last week end&lt;br /&gt; so much that he is coming back &lt;br /&gt; tomorrow - its mainly because they are &lt;br /&gt; giving his unit the same hardening &lt;br /&gt; treatment that they gave us at Hueneme &lt;br /&gt; and N.C. poor quaters and very poor food - &lt;br /&gt; I would think they would just reverse the &lt;br /&gt; procedure. &lt;br /&gt; Sorry this is so short but &lt;br /&gt; I’m just about to fall asleep - will &lt;br /&gt; write soon again &lt;br /&gt; Much love &lt;br /&gt; Bob&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                  <text>Jimmie W. Monteith, Jr. (1919-1944) was a Lieutenant in the army during World War II. He served his country bravely and was killed on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion of 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Collection consists primarily of his letters home during World War II. Also includes letters of condolence sent to the family following his death, congratulatory letters for being awarded the Medal of Honor, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Collection also contains the correspondence of his brother, Robert P. Monteith, letters of sympathy following the death of his brother and his father, Jimmie Sr., as well as other letters to and from some of his family members. In addition, there are the letters and notes of John Coulter, who wrote a biography about Monteith.</text>
