The leaves are out here and&lt;br /&gt; everything is green and I would&lt;br /&gt; guess that it is about like Virginia&lt;br /&gt; in May. &lt;br /&gt; Of course I know you want&lt;br /&gt; to know what I am doing away from&lt;br /&gt; camp on Monday for that is not at&lt;/p&gt;</text>

Well&lt;br /&gt; last week while we were in the&lt;br /&gt; field they sent out an order&lt;br /&gt; asking if anyone would like&lt;br /&gt; to be transfered out of the 30 &lt;br /&gt; Division and I gave my name&lt;br /&gt; and I was told that I would &lt;br /&gt; hear from it shortly. I hope you&lt;br /&gt; do not feel to bad about me&lt;br /&gt; changing stations again but I &lt;br /&gt; know that this is the best thing&lt;br /&gt; for me. Frankly the Division&lt;br /&gt; is rotten to the core and I &lt;br /&gt; know that anywhere the I could &lt;br /&gt; go that I would be better off and&lt;br /&gt; to say the least like it better. &lt;br /&gt; However, orders came through&lt;br /&gt; &lt;s&gt;for&lt;/s&gt; to pack up and get ready to &lt;br /&gt; move so I have done just that. &lt;br /&gt; Of course I don’t know where&lt;/p&gt;</text>

So&lt;br /&gt; to &lt;s&gt;f&lt;/s&gt; make a long story short&lt;br /&gt; I want you to put $100 in my &lt;br /&gt; checking account &lt;s&gt;in&lt;/s&gt; imediately &lt;br /&gt; and then keep my allotment&lt;br /&gt; check for this month when it comes. &lt;br /&gt; So far as I can tell I have $79.80&lt;br /&gt; in the checking account now and&lt;br /&gt; of course that will not be enough&lt;br /&gt; money &lt;s&gt;probably&lt;/s&gt; so I wish you would&lt;br /&gt; send a check to be deposited to my &lt;br /&gt; account as soon as you get this. &lt;br /&gt; I am not sure &lt;s&gt;by&lt;/s&gt; but I may&lt;br /&gt; be able to stop by home on the &lt;br /&gt; way to my new station; however I&lt;br /&gt; am not going to let my hopes&lt;br /&gt; run away with me.                   <text>Jimmie W. Monteith, Jr. (1919-1944) was a Lieutenant in the army during World War II. He served his country bravely and was killed on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion of 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Collection consists primarily of his letters home during World War II. Also includes letters of condolence sent to the family following his death, congratulatory letters for being awarded the Medal of Honor, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Collection also contains the correspondence of his brother, Robert P. Monteith, letters of sympathy following the death of his brother and his father, Jimmie Sr., as well as other letters to and from some of his family members. In addition, there are the letters and notes of John Coulter, who wrote a biography about Monteith.</text>
