Wanted&lt;br /&gt; to go over and see Otey last night&lt;br /&gt; but things just didn't work out right. &lt;br /&gt; All of the fellows in A co. cadry have been&lt;br /&gt; helping D co. 40 Bn. while they were &lt;br /&gt; on the rifle range so we have all &lt;br /&gt; been out every day from sun up till sun&lt;br /&gt; set. &lt;br /&gt; It looks very much as though I a &lt;br /&gt; going to be put in charge of all heaters, &lt;s&gt;and&lt;/s&gt;&lt;br /&gt; stoves, furnaces, etc in out Bn. so I should &lt;br /&gt; gain some valuable experience as this will&lt;br /&gt; take in about 25 buildings. Originally this &lt;br /&gt; was done by civilian firemen but their &lt;br /&gt; work was not at all satisfactory so the&lt;/p&gt;</text>

It &lt;br /&gt; seems that my name was he &lt;br /&gt; last on the list and that they just&lt;br /&gt; didn't get down that far. However they &lt;br /&gt; did take quiet a few and we have just&lt;br /&gt; about half as many men in the cadry&lt;br /&gt; as we need. &lt;br /&gt; Yesterday I got a letter from Mother&lt;br /&gt; and was very glad to hear that you were &lt;br /&gt; feeling well enough to want to be up and &lt;br /&gt; around but sorry to hear that you were &lt;br /&gt; restless and not taking full advantage of &lt;br /&gt; your much needed rest. &lt;br /&gt; Well, this wasn't much of a letter &lt;br /&gt; but I didn't have but a little time.                   <text>Jimmie W. Monteith, Jr. (1919-1944) was a Lieutenant in the army during World War II. He served his country bravely and was killed on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion of 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Collection consists primarily of his letters home during World War II. Also includes letters of condolence sent to the family following his death, congratulatory letters for being awarded the Medal of Honor, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Collection also contains the correspondence of his brother, Robert P. Monteith, letters of sympathy following the death of his brother and his father, Jimmie Sr., as well as other letters to and from some of his family members. In addition, there are the letters and notes of John Coulter, who wrote a biography about Monteith.</text>
