On her second tour of Iraq, Captain Reeves flew the flag of her alma mater in honor of the victims. She wrote: “As we can’t much wear maroon and orange out here with our uniforms, I’ll speak for the Hokies in Iraq and say that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are all linked by this event, causing us to reflect on our lives and our past.”

He notifies her of a new oath administered by the Union that requires the denouncing of all claims for compensation for former slaves. An account of the resource
Gabe writes to Nannie from Mt. Sidney, Virginia, telling her he is unharmed after the most recent battle, but lost most of his officers. He expects to be ordered back to Southwest Virginia soon. He also inquires about articles he has sent to Nannie such as a veil, paper, and a trunk. Gabe also gives Nannie military updates and asks for information about other battles.
