Materials date from about 1872 to 2004. The majority of the collection is comprised of research for The Bugle's Echo, including handwritten manuscripts, drafts, copies of research material, and extensive collection of photographs. Most of the research materials are photocopies from the Bugle, Techgram, and the Collegiate Times. As part of his research on Virginia Tech, Col. A hand-painted image of a girl with a duck adorns the cover of "Cooking Recipes." Within the book's pages exist a variety of recipes for soups, salads, puddings, cookies, cakes, icings, and biscuits. Materials date from about 1872 to 2004. The majority of the collection is comprised of research for The Bugle's Echo, including handwritten manuscripts, drafts, copies of research material, and extensive collection of photographs. Most of the research materials are photocopies from the Bugle, Techgram, and the Collegiate Times. As part of his research on Virginia Tech, Col. I arrived here on Thursday Evening about 4 o’clock; and had rather an unpleasant trip of it though no bad luck. The stage was very much crowed all the way. I got on the stage at [Obenchain’s?] about 10 o’clock at night and came to Fincastle where I had to stay till Sunday 1 o’clock, and then came to the Springs where I stayed till Wedne- sday Morning 2 o’clock. If I had not stayed in Fincastle, I would have had to stay in Salem till Wednesday Morning so I didn’t loose anything by my staying in Fincastle. Uncle George [?] are looking for Smith in about the 10th August. They expect to go to the west this fall if they can sell their property when Smith comes in. Sarah is going to schoole again and intends to [?] til she graduates which will be some two or three years. I am very well pleased with the institu- tion so far. The College Building is very large; it is 150 feet long four stories high, and commands a beautiful view from the surrounding country. I have got a room on the second story which will be a very fine room when they finish plastering it. I will be very comfortably situated during the session. --- I saw some delightful country a as I came over here. With [*?] Smith countries are the greatest grass country that I ever saw. grass seems to grow on any of the hills in the greatest attendance. It has been very seasonable in With, Smith, and Washington Counties this Summer and the crops of every kind are very find especially the [cats?], [?] grass [crops?]. A gentleman in Smith Co. told me that it had been so wet there this Summer that he coulden’t work his corn well. The [cats?] crop in this neighborhood is as good as any that I ever saw. The Boarding house is situated about two hundred yards from the College Building; and the fare is as good as it was at the Springs. There are some 12 or 13 students boarding here now. The College is about 9 miles this side of Abling- don, and is about 1 mile from the stage line. The College is situated alltogether in a [retired?] portion of country, Abingdon is the nearest Villa ge to it.—Mr Collins also has been president of this College for the last 12 or 13 years is now elected president of the [Deckiman?] College in Maryland; and Prof Willey is elected presi- dent pro tem in his place. I have heared that M Dowell is in Abingdon and intends to go to see him this week. If I find time [Right side] there I will surprise him wonderfully. It is about 25 miles from here to the Tennessee line. If you have heared anything from Brothers since I left Home let me know when you write to me.----- I passed by one man’s house as I came over here who owned 800 head of cattle (he lived in Smith County at the seven mile ford). The rail road passes within one hundred yards of the College building. They are working on it very rapidly through Smith + Washington Counties. This is all that I deem it necessary to write at this time. Materials date from about 1872 to 2004. The majority of the collection is comprised of research for The Bugle's Echo, including handwritten manuscripts, drafts, copies of research material, and extensive collection of photographs. Most of the research materials are photocopies from the Bugle, Techgram, and the Collegiate Times. As part of his research on Virginia Tech, Col. Materials date from about 1872 to 2004. The majority of the collection is comprised of research for The Bugle's Echo, including handwritten manuscripts, drafts, copies of research material, and extensive collection of photographs. Most of the research materials are photocopies from the Bugle, Techgram, and the Collegiate Times. As part of his research on Virginia Tech, Col. Temple collected a few original letters and memorabilia from other cadets. This collection houses a few of these letters and reminisces from the early years of Virginia Tech's history. The other materials in the collection stem largely from Colonel. Temple's interest in the military and heraldry. The collection contains materials ranging from battle maps of Europe from the Napoleonic Wars to World War II, to heraldric drawings made by Temple or audio recordings of lectures he attended. Also included are various publications about heraldry and the military that Temple accumulated over his lifetime.
