Dr. Cutler became the executive director of Explore Park in 1991. The park was intended to be a historical reenactment park, where actors would help guests learn about life in Virginia in the past, see reconstructed historical buildings, and watch costumed craftsmen engaging in period-accurate displays of blacksmithing, singing, dancing, and woodworking. Explore Park has struggled through the years with realizing its original vision, and eventually had to change directions in order to stay operational. Cutler was instrumental in gaining funding and support for the park as well as getting its operation off the ground.
