The Whartons' Journey

In this interactive exhibit, follow the journey of a husband and wife throughout the American Civil War. See how Confederate Brigadier General Gabriel C. Wharton moved with the troops, and how wife Nannie Radford Wharton moved with her family. With this map, you can see the pain of separation that they often mention in their letters.

To view any of the letters featured here or their transcripts, visit the Wharton and Radford Families Papers Online. This is only a small selection of materials from the collection; we are continuously working to digitize the remainder of the collection. To view information about the rest of the collection, please visit the Wharton and Radford Families Papers Finding Aid.
