"I studied carefully the policy of the Children of Israel, when 'they borrowed of the Egyptians, jewels of silver + gold and raiment'"
This quote is from Exodus, Chapter 12, Verse 35: “And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptian jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment.”
"'They spoiled the Egyptians.'"
This quote is also from Exodus, Chapter 3, Verse 22: “But every woman shall borrow of her neighbor, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.” (In this particular version, spoil is used to mean “plunder.”).
"I studied the policy of Abraham when he denied his wife before Abimelech, 'because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place.'"
This quote is from Genesis, Chapter 20, when Abraham identifies his wife, Sarah, as his sister, leading the local leader, Abimelech, to take her into his household. Upon learning that Sarah was actually Abraham’s wife, Abimelech returns her, asking why he lied. Abraham responds with the quote that Woods here includes: “Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.” (Genesis, Chapter 20, Verse 11).
