Blue Diary, Page 9, John Caldwell

"then still lived on his father's place until he entered the Confederat service in Cavalry under John T Morgan Col. Com'nd. Capt Dye's Co.--+died Mar. 1863."

Records verifying John Caldwell’s service and death have not been found. John Tyler Morgan (not to be confused with the more famous John Hunt Morgan) was a Confederate cavalryman and solider who organized the 51st Alabama Cavalry Regiment in the Army of Tennessee and served as a brigadier general in the Western theater throughout 1864. As written by Woods, the 51st was commanded by Major James T. Dye; however, while the unit includes a “E.V. Caldwell,” “F.M. Caldwell,” “James M. Caldwell,” “W.D.F Caldwell,” and “W.D. Caldwell,” it does not appear to include John Caldwell.
