Blue Diary, Page 20, Samuel Houston

"As Sam. Houston of Tex. says"

Samuel Houston (1793-1863) was a politician and leader of the Texas Revolution, annexation, and admittance into the United States in 1845. Following a term as a US Senator, he was elected as governor of Texas in 1859. In contrast to the governors of the other Deep South states, Houston opposed secession and was subsequently removed from office in 1861.
