Memoir 3, Page 99, Woods' Friends
"My friends among the soliders sought every opportunity to encourage me--among them I can mention J.D. Sasser, Ed Adderhalt, Jno. Rutledge, Ben. Wade, Smith, Abbott, Brown--Goosby, Henry Sasser, Tom Curry and many others of 36th Ala. Reg."
Of these men listed here, service records can be found for six of them. As Woods mentions, those listed here were all members of Company K of the 36th Alabama. J.D. Sasser was a private who is shown as having been moved to the Register of the Invalid Corps in the Confederate Army before being paroled in June of 1865 in Talladega, Alabama. John Rutledge was captured near Nashville, Tennessee in December 16, 1864 where he stayed until the end of the war, taking the oath of allegiance at Camp Chase, Ohio. The Goosby that Woods refers to here might have been Daniel Goulsby, who we only know was killed in 1864. Henry G. Sasser’s service record is also severely limited, revealing only that he took the oath of allegiance on August 22, 1864 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thomas Curry enlisted October 2, 1862, and was hospitalized in July and August of 1863. Noah Abbott's service record reveals little except for his capture at Missionary Ridge on November 25, 1863 during the Battle of Chattanooga. Following his capture, he was sent along to the military prison at Louisville, Kentucky and then on to Rock Island in the Mississippi River in December of 1863. He then enlisted in the US Navy in January of the following year and was assigned to the Tugboat Bazely immediately after its purchase for troop and resource transport in June of 1864. Information could not be found on Ed Adderhalt, Ben Wade, Smith, or Brown.
