Memoir 1, Page 70, Burr's Conspiracy

"Burr's Conspiracy... all these events attracted my attention, and moulded my character to venerate and love our moddle government"

Burr’s Conspiracy was a supposed plot of the first decade of the 1800s hatched by a collection of prominent men led by US Vice President, Aaron Burr. According to the accusations, Burr and his cohorts were attempting to overthrow American presence in and establish an independent country in what is now Texas. These accusations led President Thomas Jefferson to arrest and try Burr for treason. While the case was ultimately dismissed, the charges completely ruined Burr’s career.
