"Theodric C. Lyon"
Theodric C. Lyon was most likely a fellow student with Woods. A service record for Lyon reveals that he went on to serve in two Confederate regiments, including the 43rd and 48th Mississippi regiments. While he was elected to be a sergeant and 1st lieutenant while in the 43rd, he was ultimately court martialed for “conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline” and for “discouraging the soldiers from fighting.” He was specifically tried for publishing a letter that the military believed broke Article 5 of the Articles of War, which forbids officers from speaking against the president or another high-ranking government official. His court martial transferred and demoted him to the rank of private in the 48th Mississippi.
