"The Jacksonville Republican"
The Jacksonville Republican was a newspaper run out of Jacksonville, Alabama from 1837 to 1895, with a brief resurrection from 1900 to 1904 following its relocation to Anniston, Alabama. The title is misleading, as the paper was pro-secessionist, containing celebratory descriptions of Confederate victories, generals, and regiments. A digitized copy of the October 1861 edition of the newspaper reveals the rumors to which Woods was alluding in his previous entry, as page 3 discusses recent fighting in Kentucky, Missouri, and Virginia. Digitization of most of these newspapers was done at Jacksonville State University and can be found here.
